Marie Raymond - Yves Klein

LAAC - Lieu d'art et action contemporaine de Dunkerque, Dunkirk, France

A rare collective exhibition dedicated to the artists Marie Raymond and Yves Klein that throws light on the fascinating relationship between the artistic approach of the mother, Marie Raymond, a renowned figure of the 1950s avant-garde movements, and that of her son, Yves Klein, an icon of the second half of the 20th century and a founding member of the Nouveau Réalisme movement, internationally famous for his "Klein Blue". Marie Raymond's lyrical, sensitive and inspired painting style can shed light on the artistic adventure of Yves Klein and his extraordinary explosive energy. The "cosmic space" qualities of the son's oeuvre can be seen in the mother's later works.

This LAAC exhibition gathers together, for the first time in the Nord - Pas de Calais region, some twenty works by Marie Raymond, from 1943 to 1984, and nearly 40 works by Yves Klein, including numerous oeuvres from his younger days and a few surprising utopian architectural projects.

"Colour, the symbol of life, must achieve maximum expression." Marie Raymond
