Archéologie du Présent

MAMC - Musée d'art moderne et contemporain de Saint-Étienne Métropole, Saint-Étienne, France

The 2016 exhibition of the Museum's collection invites visitors to rediscover the place occupied by the object in the history of art from the early 20th century to the present day.

This exhibition-event of about 150 works, displays in a masterful way the collection of the Museum supplemented by some prestigious loans. Many masterpieces are presented: Pablo Picasso, Marcel Duchamp, Yves Tanguy, Fernand Léger, Jacques Villeglé, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Anne and Patrick Poirier, Absalon, ... and a new installation of Claude Lévêque entitled " Storm".

Surrealism defies the limits of sculpture by appealing to the object; the "Cubist Picasso" dialogues with a selection of the African art collection; the object becomes alternately ready-made or object with symbolic functioning ... Object found, object of consumption ... New Realism, Pop Art ... From surprises to discoveries, the visitor notes the engagement of the artists to build the meaning of a mythology modern.
