School of Nice - From Pop Art to Happening

Hong Kong City Hall, Hong Kong, China

In Nice, one day in the summer of 1947, three young men promise to share the world: Yves Klein, future master of the IKB appropriates the blue infinity of the sky; the poet Claude Pascal seizes the air and returns to Arman, future maestro of the appropriation of objects, the earth and its riches. From this mythical and casual pact, is born a constellation of flashes, gestures and encounters that will break on the Côte d'Azur to upset the history of art.

In Paris, in 1977, the Center Pompidou celebrated this adventure with the exhibition "About Nice" tracing the artistic emulation from 1947 to 1977 under the orchestration of the great agitator and one of the instigators of this epic: Ben.

In 2018, the City Hall of Hong Kong takes part of the exhibition that took place in MAMAC the year before and returns to this phenomenon of crystallization engendered by charismatic personalities browsing this "crazy diagonal" between Nice and the major international artistic capitals. It is thus, in this revolution of gestures, in this insurrection of thought and form, this insolence of attitudes, this fascination for mythologies, that the proposed course is outlined. Beyond the authorized stories, by dates, movements or personalities, the exhibition is built on 600 m² around a constellation of practices connecting these actors by as many transversal approaches, and in the course of collections by through thematic entries around places or events.
