The World in Spheres

Bibliothèque nationale de France - site François-Mitterrand, Paris, France

The globe is a familiar object, deeply rooted in everyone's imagination. An object of art and knowledge that has incarnated over the centuries the spherical vision of the world. How to apprehend today the universe as it was known and imagined before Copernicus, before Newton, before the scientific revolutions and the conquest of space? Initially presented at the Louvre Abu Dhabi, the exhibition designed by the BnF retraces 2500 years of a history of science and representations of the sky and the Earth. From Antiquity to the present day, from the conception of a closed spherical world centered on the Earth to that of an infinite universe in perpetual evolution, she weaves the threads that link the quest for knowledge with science and imagination. today. An exceptional journey paying homage to scientists who have approached, from spheres to spheres, from circles to ellipses, modeling a cosmos that has not finished revealing its secrets.
On this occasion Yves Klein's famous photograph with the Blue Earth Globe will be on display.
