In the spring of 2019, the Zentrum Paul Klee is dedicated to ecstasy - one of the oldest and most amazing cultural phenomena. The thematic exhibition brings together some 230 works from antiquity to the present. Since always, the human being desires and seeks the state of ecstasy. The role and representation of ecstasy in modern and contemporary art is at the center of this exhibition. From a selection of exceptional works, this thematic exhibition shows the intensity and ambivalence of experiences of exhilaration. Famous artists such as Marlene Dumas, Meret Oppenheim, Auguste Rodin, Yves Klein, Henri Michaux, Andy Warhol and Paul Klee are the subject of surprising comparisons. They explore the crest line that separates the flight from the fall, the self-control of the loss of control, the creative impulse of madness, the asceticism of excess, the spiritual transcendence of physical audition, releasing the addiction. The exhibition is a cooperation between the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart and the Zentrum Paul Klee. On this occasion Yves Klein's "Leap into the Void" will be presented.
