GIGANTISME — ART & INDUSTRIE

FRAC Grand Large, Dunkirk, France

This new triennial explores the relationship between art and industry. It bridges the gap between creation and the economy, highlighting a territory characterized by its industrial and port complex and creating synergies between regional institutions and actors. Marked by a multidisciplinary approach, it invites us to think about the past as well as the present and the future of our link to the industry through the eyes of artists, engineers, designers, graphic designers or even architects.

The industrial wasteland of the Halle AP2 hosts disproportionate works, evaluating the reality and this attraction for grandeur, in connection with outdoor projects that open on the contemporary period. The FRAC Grand Large - Hauts-de-France proposes to explore the gigantism applied to the domestic space. The LAAC - Musée de France is interested in the processes preceding the realization of a work and the resonances of the American creation mainly with the French artists.

The first edition of this triennial revolves around a research project examining in a new light the history of art from 1947 to 1989.

The canonical narrative of the latter having largely centered around the United States, it is now a question of putting forward a marginalized and isolated French creation. GIGANTISME - ART & INDUSTRIE puts it back in the heart of the earthquakes and underlines the multiple connections linking the French scenes to their foreign counterparts, to the artistic and economic mutations of the time.

On this occasion, a historical Yves Klein film will be presented as part of the exhibition Space is a House.
