Sculpture du sud

Fondation Villa Datris pour la sculpture contemporaine, L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, France

The idea of Sculpture du Sud is to discover the artistic expressions of the Mediterranean Basin that reflect the richness of our culture and diversity. The Mediterranean has brought us together, and what we are, we owe it to the brewing of this Mediterranean culture.

Yves Klein's work reveals a new conception of the artist's function. According to Klein, beauty already exists, in the invisible state. Its task is to seize it wherever it is, in the air, in the material to show it to other men. As a result, the artwork is only a trace of the artist's communication with the world. It is the invisible reality that becomes visible. The reduction of the colors to the blue makes the pictorial material play the role of the air, of the void, from which spring the strength of the spirit and the imagination. In discovering the skies of Giotto, he recognized in him the true precursor of this blue monochrome that he practices: uniform and spiritual.
