L'ART-GENT - L'Argent dans l'Art

Monnaie de Paris, Paris, France

From the 15th century, when representations of metallic coins and scenes of transactions in painting multiplied, to the 20th century, when a more intrusive reflection on the mechanisms of money appeared, via the 19th century, which saw its art economy disrupted by the birth of Impressionism and the preponderant role of the art dealer Paul Durand-Ruel, the imagination produced by artists about money is rich and permanent.
Some one hundred and fifty pieces from various horizons in the history of art, from Simon Vouet and Louis le Nain to Arman and Warhol, via Degas and Renoir, will be presented to the public in the historic salons of the Hôtel de la Monnaie.
